About Josh
Josh designs and makes furniture with a focus on clarity of form, thoughtful proportion, and considered detail. His work is shaped by a belief that simplicity, when resolved well, carries the greatest presence.
His approach is shaped by a lifelong exposure to architecture. Growing up with architect parents, Josh was immersed in a world of modern, restrained design, where proportion and detail were central to how spaces and objects were understood. This influence remains fundamental to his aesthetic today.
At fifteen, he began work experience with Benchmark Furniture. Being welcomed into a company of such reputation at a young age was formative. He learned not only about making high-quality furniture, but about discipline, consistency, and respect for material and process. Those early lessons continue to guide his work. Josh later went on to work at Benchmark as both a furniture maker and project designer, remaining with the company until the age of twenty-five.
During this time, he studied 3D Design at Plymouth University. With a long-standing interest in structure, composition, and joinery, university provided the freedom to experiment, explore unfamiliar techniques, and develop ideas through making. This period allowed him to refine his design language and build confidence in his own direction.
Today, his practice is rooted in the balance between design and making - where structure becomes character, and detail emerges through function. Each piece is created with care, precision, and an enduring respect for craft.
